French Open results 2013: Roger Federer, Serena Williams cruise through first round

Roger Federer and Serena Williams didn’t have much trouble getting through the first round of the French Open.

The 2013 French Open started its first round on Sunday, and most of the big names in tennis made it through without much trouble.

Roger Federer cruised through his match, defeating Pablo Carreno-Busta, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. The Spaniard was making his French Open debut, but he was clearly outmatched by the world-class veteran. Federer will face Somdev Devvarman in the second round.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams was determined to not repeat her first-round disappointment from last year, destroying Anna Tatishvili, 6-0, 6-1. Williams won 56 of 78 points and had eight aces on the way to a dominating match.

Her sister didn’t fare so well. Venus Williams fell to Urszula Radwanska, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, in a marathon match. This is her second first-round exit in the past four Grand Slam tournaments.
