French Open results 2013: Roger Federer edges Gilles Simon, Serena Williams cruises
Roger Federer needed five sets, but rallied to avoid the upset. Meanwhile, Serena Williams continues to dominate the tournament. Check out the complete results for Day 9.

After taking the second and third sets, Simon was on the verge of pulling off a historic upset -- Federer has never been knocked out of a Grand Slam tournament before the quarterfinals. The legendary Swiss came back to win seven straight games and the fourth set, though. He would later take the fifth set, 6-3, to avoid elimination.
On the women’s side, Serena Williams continues her dominant run through the tournament. She breezed past Roberta Vinci, 6-1, 6-3, and will face Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals. If she wins, she will advance to the French Open semis for the first time since 2003.
