It was a relatively upset-free day on Tuesday at Wimbledon, unlike Monday’s action that saw Rafael Nadal exit at the hands of Steve Darcis. Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were both in action on the second day and both cruised to relatively easy victories in their matchups.

After the first day of action provided some upsets, Day 2 was not nearly as dramatic.

Djokovic squared off against unseeded German Florian Mayer and took him down 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Men’s No. 4 seed David Ferrer had a tougher time with his unseeded opponent, as Martin Alund managed to take the second set. Ferrer managed to close it out from there, however, winning 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
ATP No. 8 Juan Martin Del Potro looked great in his match, a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Albert Ramos. Other high seeds who were victorious on the men’s side included No. 7 Tomas Berdych, No. 13 Tommy Haas, No. 9 Richard Gasquet and No. 12 Kei Nishikori.
The highest-seeded men who fell were No. 21 Sam Querrey, who lost to Bernard Tomic in five sets, and No. 19 Gilles Simon, who was beaten by Feliciano Lopez in straight sets. The latter match included a lengthy tiebreak, with a final score of 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (13-11) in favor of Lopez.
On the women’s side, Williams cruised to victory over unseeded Mandy Minella, 6-1, 6-3. Even though Serena cruised, there were some high profile upsets, including No. 10 Maria Kirilenko. She struggled and made a lot of errors, eventually falling to Laura Robson 6-3, 6-4. No. 13 seed Nadia Petrova also lost, falling to her unseeded opponent, Karolina Pliskova.
