The 2013 French Open started its quarterfinal run on Tuesday, and we already have one big upset. Roger Federer lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.

Federer couldn’t get out of his own way in this match, making 34 unforced errors and getting three double faults. The match took less than two hours to complete as Tsonga dispatched him with ease. He missed the chance to set an all-time win record at Roland Garros, currently sitting tied at first place with 58. This is the second of his last three Grand Slam appearances where he’s been knocked out of the quarters.

Tsonga has reached the French Open semis for the first time in his career, where he will face David Ferrer. Ferrer didn’t have much trouble in his match, destroying Tommy Rebredo, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

In women’s action, Serena Williams survived a marathon match, defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. This is the first time since 2003 she will be playing in the French Open semifinals. Her next opponent is now set after Sara Errani beat Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
