The semifinals field for the 2013 Wimbledon women’s draw has been set after another intriguing day of play Tuesday that saw two Top 10 seeds and the last remaining American player fall. In terms of star power and superior play, the match between No. 4 Agnieszka and No. 6 Na Li highlighted the day. Up 5-2 in the third set, Agnieszka had to serve match point eight times before finally advancing, 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. The match may have turned a short time earlier, when Agnieszka broke Li coming out of a rain delay.

Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Na Li to advance to the women’s semifinals at Wimbledon, along with Sabine Lisicki, Marion Bartoli and Kirsten Flipkens.

Agnieszka advances to face No. 23 Sabine Lisicki, who took down Kaia Kanepi, 6-3, 6-3, just one day after notching a shocking upset over No. 1 Serena Williams. SB Nation’s Bill Connelly wrote about the dangers of a let-down coming off a great performance, but Lisicki was once again up to the task. Though perhaps not quite as sharp as she was against Williams, Lisicki still took advantage of her opportunities to show off her power, driving in 23 winners to just 13 for Kanepi.
Unfortunately for fans of United States tennis, No. 15 Marion Bartoli’s 6-4, 7-5, win over No. 17 Sloane Stephens ended any chance of an American winning this year’s Wimbledon on the women’s or men’s draw. Stephen seemed to have an upper hand in the first set, but she was broken six times after a long rain delay to ultimately lose the match.
Bartoli advances to face No. 20 Kirsten Flipkens, who took down No. 8 Petra Kvitova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to leave Radwanska as the last remaining Top 10 seed on the women’s draw. In another tightly contested match, Flipkens committed just five unforced errors to 28 for Kvitova in three sets to overcome a 41-23 advantage for Kvitova on winners.
