Andy Murray advanced to the 2013 Wimbledon finals with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 24 Jerzy Janowicz in the semifinals on Friday. The match was a tense affair as both players let their emotions get the better of them at times. Ultimately, though, Murray proved too crafty and too strong.

Andy Murray downed Jerzy Janowicz in four sets on Friday, and will advance to the Wimbledon finals to face Novak Djokovic.

Janowicz appeared to be taking over the match in the third set, when it was tied at one set apiece, as he broke Murray at 1-2 and then won on his serve to take a 1-4 lead in the set. Murray roared back, though, firing two aces on his way to winning the sixth game. Murray continued to bring the crowd back in his favor by breaking Janowicz to take the set to 3-4.
Drama ensued after the third set. Janowicz was asking the umpire to close the roof throughout the set and finally got his wish, despite seemingly ample sunlight outside of center court. Murray was unhappy about that, and let the umpire know, but to no effect as the match was delayed 40 minutes while the roof was closed.
The argument had something to do with physics. Humidity increases incrementally with the roof closed, lowering air density and creating favorable conditions for the hard-hitting Janowicz. Murray appeared frustrated by this as Janowicz served to win the first game after the delay, but quickly found his groove by winning his serve before breaking Janowicz to go up 2-1. Murray again broke Janowicz at 5-3, this time to win the match.
Murray served 20 aces to Janowicz’s eight and scored on 71 percent of his second serves compared to 50 percent for Janowicz.
After what has been one of the most upset-filled slams ever played, fans will get to see the top seeds in the men’s draw face off in the final. No. 1 Novak Djokovic defeated No. 8 Juan Martin del Potro to set up what should be an exciting finale between him and Murray.
