World No. 1 Novak Djokovic cruised to an easy second-round victory at the U.S. Open on Friday. Djokovic bested unseeded German Benjamin Becker, 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2. Becker provided some fight in the first set, forcing the Serb into a situation in which he had to fight off two set points before forcing the tiebreak. Becker lost his composure after the first set, and finished with 36 unforced errors on the day.
2013 U.S. Open bracket update: Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray make it into 3rd round with Friday wins
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Andy Murray made it into the third round with easy victories at the U.S. Open on Friday.

Other high seeds managed to advance, as well. No. 3 Andy Murray bested Leonardo Mayer, but not before dropping a set and having to go to a fourth. He won, and that’s what matters, though, 7-5, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Mayer made him fight for it throughout, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Murray a little drained heading into his Round of 32 match against Florian Mayer.
No. 5 Tomas Berdych was also successful, taking down Denis Kudla, 7-6(3), 7-6(3), 6-3. Women’s No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska was victorious in her match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Radwanska had a little trouble in the first set, and she faced a serious struggle in the second as the victim of three break points. Still, she won, 6-4, 7-6(1).
Other players victorious on the day include No. 12 Tommy Haas, who bested Yen-Hsun Lu, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3), and No. 9 Jelena Jankovic, who took down Kurumi Nara, 6-4, 7-6(5). No. 16 Sabine Lisicki was upset at the hands of No. 24 Ekaterina Makarova, losing 6-4, 7-5.
Women’s No. 1 Serena Williams will be taking on Yaroslava Shvedova in the final match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium Friday night.
