U.S. Open 2013 bracket update: Federer upset while Nadal and Ferrer advance
Most of the big names advanced on Day 8 of the U.S. Open, but the big news of the day came in one of the evening matches when Tommy Robredo shocked Roger Federer to reach the quarterfinals.

This marks the second straight early exit at a major for Federer, who was knocked out in the second round of Wimbledon. Robredo advances to face Rafael Nadal on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Nadal reached the round of 8 by beating Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets. Nadal won his only U.S. Open in 2010, though he was the runner up in 2011.
Elsewhere on the men’s side, David Ferrer defeated Janko Tipsarevic. He will play Richard Gasquet in the quarterfinals.
For the women, the Williams sisters were scheduled to play doubles against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Lucie Safarova, but the match was postponed due to rain. Victoria Azarenka’s clash with Ana Ivanovic was also cancelled, and will be made up on Tuesday.
