Davis Cup final 2014: Match times and TV schedule for Day 1

Roger Federer and Gael Monfils will face off in a rematch of their thrilling quarterfinal battle at the U.S. Open.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

France and Switzerland square off in the finals of the 2014 Davis Cup, beginning with a strong slate of matches on Friday.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga faces Stan Wawrinka in the opening match of the final round, but it’s the second match of the day that should be worth the price of admission. Gael Monfils and Roger Federer square off in a rematch of their thrilling quarterfinal battle in the U.S. Open in September.

Monfils led that match by two sets and had Federer on the ropes on two occasions, but the Swiss star stormed back to win in five sets before losing to eventual champion Marin Cilic in the semifinals.

Federer will be in action for the first time since pulling out of the ATP World Tour final with a back injury. The 17-time Grand Slam champion is looking for his first -- and Switzerland’s first -- Davis Cup title.

Coverage begins at 8 a.m. ET, when Wawrinka and Tsonga get underway. Monfils and Federer will follow at 11 a.m., or shortly after the completion of the first match. All five Davis Cup matches can be seen on the Tennis Channel.
