The field will get narrowed down to eight men and women each, leading into quarterfinal action on Tuesday and the championship rounds on Saturday and Sunday. The men’s side is still rather straightforward at this point. No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 2 Novak Djokovic are still alive and set for a potential clash in the finals, but they’ll have to get past their respective opponents first. After those two, the top seed alive is No. 5 David Ferrer, who could potentially meet Nadal in the quarterfinals. The winner of that match could end up seeing No. 7 Andy Murray in the semifinals.
There is no such clarity on the women’s side, where nearly every top name has been eliminated. Serena Williams, Li Na and Victoria Azarenka have all lost in the early rounds, leaving No. 4 Simona Halep as the top seed remaining. She faces tough competition from No. 15 Sloane Stephens on Monday and a potential quarterfinals clash with either No. 6 Jelena Jankovic or No. 10 Sara Errani. No. 7 Maria Sharapova is the biggest name still alive, and she faces Garbine Muquruza in the quarterfinals.
