Wimbledon 2014 scores and results: Andy Murray falls in quarterfinals

There will be no consecutive Wimbledon championships by Murray, who was swept aside in straight sets by Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday.

A week at Wimbledon full of upsets added another highly ranked casualty on Wednesday, as national favorite and defending champion Andy Murray was knocked out of the quarterfinals in straight sets by 23-year-old Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

Murray, who last year became the first British man to win at Wimbledon in 77 years, was beaten soundly to the tune of 6-1, 7-6(4), 6-2.

The upset comes just a day after another former champion, Rafael Nadal, was shocked by 19-year-old Nick Kyrgios. The upstart Australian’s run finally ended on Wednesday, however, when he was eliminated by eighth-seeded Milos Raonic in four sets.

Other favorites managed to cruise into the semifinals. Top-seeded Novak Djokovic overcame a rough start to squeak by Marin Cilic in five sets while Roger Federer battled past Stan Wawrinka in four sets.

Two quarterfinal matches were played on the women’s side on Wednesday, both of which featured wins by up-and-coming prospects. No. 3 Simona Halep brushed aside Sabine Lisicki in straight sets and Eugenie Bouchard made equally easy work of Angelique Kerber.

Here are the results from Wednesday’s singles matches. Complete results can be found at the official Wimbledon website.
