Both top seeds will be in action Thursday afternoon, highlighting Day 4 of the 2014 U.S. Open at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City. Elsewhere, five of the top ten men’s seeds are in action, as are four of the top ten in the women’s field. Television coverage of Day 4 begins at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN and WatchESPN.

The day opens with two-time finalist Victoria Azarenka in action against American Christina McHale. Azarenka, who has struggled with injuries throughout the year and scraped through the first round, begins her mach at 11 a.m. ET. At the same time, No. 8 Ana Ivanovic faces Karolina Pliskova, No. 11 Flavia Pennetta plays Shelby Rogers, and men’s No. 10 Kei Nishikori takes on Pablo Andujar.

Serena Williams takes center court at 1 p.m. ET, facing Vania King. The five-time U.S. Open winner and two-time defending champion has yet to make it out of the fourth round of a major this year, and an early exit here would make it the first year that Serena failed to make a Grand Slam quarterfinal since 1998. Elsewhere, top-rated American men’s player John Isner takes on Jan-Lennard Struff and No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga draws Aleksandr Nedovyesov.

The top seed in the men’s bracket, Novak Djokovic, follows Williams on Arthur Ashe Stadium Court as he faces Paul-Henri Mathieu. The 2011 U.S. Open champion is looking for a second consecutive major championship and third straight final. No. 5 seed Milos Raonic is also in action Thursday afternoon, facing Peter Gojowczyk. Women’s No. 3 Petra Kvitova plays against fellow Czech Petra Cetkovska, and the Williams sisters play a first round doubles match against No. 7 Tomea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic.

The evening session is highlighted by No. 8 Andy Murray’s second round match against Matthias Bachinger. Murray is trying to recapture the form that drove him to the 2012 U.S. Open championship, his first grand slam victory. In the late match, women’s No. 7 Eugene Bouchard faces Sorana Cirstea.
