Caroline Wozniacki has advanced to the finals of the 2014 U.S. Open after a heat stroke forced opponent Peng Shuai to retire and eventually be towed off the court in a wheelchair, according to Jane McManus of ESPN.com.

Caroline Wozniacki has advanced to the finals after Shuai had to be taken off the court in a wheelchair.


Shuai, a 28-year-old Chinese pro, crumpled to the ground with leg cramps during a tightly-contested second set. According to reports, she remained on the ground for 20 minutes before being carried to the locker room. She then attempted to return, only to collapse again.

Wozniacki will now face the winner of the match between Serena Williams and Ekaterina Makarova in the finals.
