Australian Open 2015 schedule and TV coverage for Monday’s matches

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are among those playing on Day 1 of the 2015 Australian Open. Here’s how you can watch.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The 2015 Australian Open will get underway proper on Sunday, for those of you in the United States. The matches will be played on Monday local time, but will get started on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. ET, and will run until 7 a.m. on Monday.

It promises to be an exciting tournament, with a healthy Roger Federer coming off a big win in Brisbane, where he earned his 1,000th career victory along the way. Then there’s Rafael Nadal, who was favored to take the tournament in a big way last year, but fell in the finals to Stan Wawrinka. That year saw the defending champions both lose in the quarterfinals, as both Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka fell in that round.

Djokovic is the favorite to take this year’s tournament though. He’s the top seed and playing excellent tennis.

Monday’s matches, as stated above, will get underway at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Television coverage of the tournament will be handled by the Tennis Channel and ESPN. For Day 1, ESPN2 will be the sole broadcaster, carrying early round play from 6 p.m. through 7 a.m. Folks hoping to watch online can do so at WatchESPN and the official website.

There’s a full slate of matches to kick things off on Sunday, and we’ll list a few worth checking out below:
