2015 Davis Cup final results: Andy Murray, Jamie Murray give Great Britain crucial lead on Day 2

Great Britain is now a single win away from ending its massive Davis Cup drought. The nation improved to 2-1 over Belgium in the 2015 finals on Saturday when Andy Murray and Jamie Murray took down Belgium’s Steve Darcis and David Goffin in four sets in the one doubles matchup of the finals, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Andy carried the Murray brothers for much of the match, though Jamie was no slouch, especially nearer the end of the match. Jamie struggled mightily in the second set and it was kept close only by the strong play of Andy, the No. 2 singles player in the world. But Jamie settled down and was a key factor in the final two sets, which Great Britain took without issue.

Belgium substituted Goffin in place of Ruben Bemelmans to play alongside Darcis. Goffin is indisputably the best Belgian player, but the replacement was surprising given his limited experience as a doubles competitor. They wanted to play their two best players overall, but Goffin had played in just one previous Davis Cup doubles match prior to Saturday’s pivotal matchup.

The last time Great Britain won the Davis Cup was back in 1936, while Belgium has never won it.

Belgium will need to win both singles matches on Sunday if they are to come away with the title. The first will see Goffin, the No. 16 singles player in the world, up against Andy. The second one will see Bemelmans, who should be well-rested at this stage, up against Kyle Edmund.

The latter match will not take place at all if Murray beats Goffin, because Great Britain would then have the three points needed to win it all.

The Davis Cup features three days of play and up to five matches in total. The first day sees two singles matchups -- Goffin beat Edmund and Andy beat Bemelmans on Day 1 in the finals -- while the second day features the doubles match, which the Murray brothers won. The third day features the next two singles matches, if necessary.
