U.S. Open draw 2015 announced: Serena Williams goes for the Calendar Grand Slam

Plus Andy Murray faces Nick Kyrgios in the first round.

Serena Williams now knows what her path to a calendar Grand Slam looks like. The draw for the 2015 U.S Open was announced on Thursday and all eyes will be on Williams. The Slam’s defending champion is looking to become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win all four Grand Slams in a single calendar year. A win in Flushing would also be the 22nd of Williams’ singles career, which would tie Graf’s Open-Era record for most all-time.

Williams is the No. 1 seed on the women’s side. She’s lost just just two total sets in her last three U.S Opens, according to ESPN Stats and Info. She could meet No. 29 ranked Sloane Stephens in the third round and her sister Venus in the quarterfinals. Simona Halep has the No. 2 rank on the women’s side.

The women’s final will take place Sept. 12.

On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic is the No. 1 seed and Roger Federer is No. 2. Rafael Nadal, who’s been dealing with a shoulder injury and has struggled this year, is on Djokovic’s side of the draw and the two could meet up in the quarterfinals.

The most notable first round match on the men’s side is between No. 3 ranked Andy Murray and the controversial Nick Kyrgios. Murray defeated Kyrgios in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Murray, the 2012 champion, is slated to meet No. 5 Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals and Federer in the semifinals.

John Isner, the highest-ranked American at No. 13, will have to go through Federer in the quarterfinals. Defending champion Marin Cilic, who’s failed to turn last year’s win into any momentum, is ranked No. 9.

The men’s final will take place Sept. 13.

The full tournament schedule and draws can be found at the U.S Open’s official website.
