2015 US Open bracket update: Novak Djokovic advances past 3rd round with win Friday

Novak Djokovic made it past Andreas Seppi on Friday, and is into the Round of 16.

Top seed Novak Djokovic breezed through his third-round opponent and into the Round of 16 on Friday. Djokovic’s opponent was No. 25 seed Andreas Seppi, but other than mildly competitive second and third sets, he had nothing to offer Djokovic. In the end, Djokovic downed him in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.

Last year’s US Open winner, Marin Cilic, has made it through to the fourth round as well. Cilic, who hasn’t looked great thus far this season, needed five sets to down unseeded opponent Mikhail Kukushkin, 6-7(5), 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-1. Men’s No. 26 Tommy Robredo, who had this awesome behind-the-back winner on the tournament’s opening day, fell to unseeded Frenchman Benoit Paire on Friday. Paire took the match in straight sets, 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-1.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the No. 19 seed, found victory on the men’s side, beating Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2.

On the women’s side, No. 23 seed Venus Williams downed No. 12 seed Belinda Bencic, 6-3, 6-4. Venus is playing some of her best tennis at this point and more upsets should be expected. No. 13 seed Ekaterina Makarova took down Elina Svitolina, the No. 17 seed, in straight sets as well, 6-3, 7-5.
