Tennis history is on the line Tuesday in New York City. Sisters Serena and Venus Williams face off in the quarterfinals of the 2015 US Open Tennis Championships with the former vying to become the first player in 27 years to win each of the four major titles in a single season.

An accomplishment such as the one Serena may potentially have would be noteworthy on its own. What’s remarkable about this particular case is the element of sibling rivalry. Venus, an accomplished player in her own right with seven Grand Slams, hasn’t won a major in seven years. She has a chance to rectify that in New York, but only at the expense of her sister. Likewise, a win for Serena would prove somewhat bittersweet because of what a loss means to Venus.

The sisters have gone on record that they do not enjoy playing each other. They first met professionally in the 1998 Australian Open, and their matches since have largely been uncomfortable affairs. The two last faced off at this year’s Wimbledon, where Serena emerged victorious in straight sets. The awkward feel of these matches doesn’t seem likely to change Tuesday when one of the sisters ultimately drops the other and moves on in the tournament.

Still, for most tennis watchers, the prospect of seeing the two sisters face off with so much on the line is must-see television.
