Garbine Muguruza is riding a ton of momentum after winning her first ever Grand Slam title earlier this year on the clay of Roland Garros. She took down Serena Williams in those finals and on Monday will launch her bid to take home the title on the grass of Wimbledon. She has appeared in the finals of Wimbledon once before, her first ever Grand Slam final appearance, in fact.
Wimbledon 2016: Time, TV schedule, live streaming for Monday’s matches
Men’s No. 1 Novak Djokovic and women’s No. 2 Garbine Muguruza will be in action for the first day of Wimbledon on Monday.

That happened in 2015, when she fell to Williams. Now the two are seeded No. 1 and No. 2 and can meet again only if they both make it to the finals. Naturally, they’re favored to do so, though it’s Muguruza who has the “easier” draw on paper. She has a tough match against the always-dangerous (especially on grass) Camila Giorgi in her opening round match on Monday, but Lucie Safarova is her first potential seeded match.
It will be the No. 1 men’s seed and No. 2 women’s seed in action on the tournament’s first day; Novak Djokovic will be facing James Ward as he looks to defend his Wimbledon title. He won it last year and the year before and is looking for his fourth overall from The Championships.
Roger Federer, who could wind up facing Djokovic in the semifinals, is set to take on Guido Pella in his opener. Other interesting men’s matches from the first day of play include a showdown between No. 17 Gael Monfils and Jeremy Chardy and a tough out for No. 16 Gilles Simon, who will have to face Janko Tipsarevic to kickstart his Wimbledon bid.
For the women, Venus Williams will be in action on opposite days to her sister. The eighth seed, Venus Williams is set to face Donna Vekic on Monday. American Madison Keys, who is often overlooked thanks to the Williams sisters, is seeded ninth and will face Laura Siegemund.
Monday’s first round gets underway at 1 p.m. local time, which is 8 a.m. ET. Television coverage of the day’s matches will be carried by ESPN and will get underway at 7 a.m. That coverage will last to the end of play, with ESPN’s schedule suggesting an end of around 4:30 p.m. Online streams of all matches throughout the tournament will be available via WatchESPN.
