Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are once again top seeds and favorites heading into Wimbledon. For the 29-year-old Serb, this year’s tournament represents a chance to win his fifth consecutive Grand Slam and third consecutive title at The Championships. For Williams, it’s a chance to once again tie Steffi Graf’s record of 22 singles Grand Slam titles and a chance to defend her Wimbledon crown after winning it last year.
How to watch Wimbledon 2016 Week 1 matches
The first three rounds of The Championships will take place over its first week as Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams try to capture yet another title on the grass of Wimbledon.

She won it over Garbine Muguruza in the finals in 2015. Muguruza was making her first finals appearance and went on to make her second one in the French Open earlier this year. There, she faced Williams and prevailed, preventing Williams from tying Graf’s record. It shocked everyone, and now Muguruza is the No. 2 seed at Wimbledon and ready to take another crack at a Grand Slam title.
Andy Murray figures to once again be the top competition to Djokovic. He is the second seed and could face Djokovic only in the finals. But before those two potential finals matchups, there’s a whole draw to get through and plenty of chances to falter for all of the top players.
Djokovic’s first match will be played against James Ward, an unseeded opponent but one who is dangerous nonetheless. Murray will face Liam Broady in his first matchup, and it’s worth noting that Murray struggled big time early during the French Open. He was pushed to five sets twice in the opening rounds. Williams will be taking on Amra Sadikovic while Muguruza will face Camila Giorgi.
The first week of matches will run through July 2, with no play scheduled on July 3. The first, second and third rounds will all take place in the first week, with each round getting two days of play. The second week begins on July 4 with the Round of 16. ESPN has coverage throughout the tournament, via its flagship network and ESPN2.
Week 1 will primarily be broadcast on ESPN, with coverage beginning at 7 a.m. ET on all days save for Saturday, when it starts an hour later. Play will last until around 4:30 p.m. most days, with ESPN carrying coverage for that entire block. Live streams will be available every single day via WatchESPN, beginning bright and early and running until play is stopped.
