Wimbledon 2016: Time, TV schedule, live streaming for Thursday’s matches

Andy Murray and Garbine Muguruza will be in action as the backlog at Wimbledon continues due to weather delays.

There’s a massive backup of matches at this year’s Wimbledon tournament due to weather raining out a large part of the second day and almost all of the third day. Wednesday saw action almost solely on Centre Court, which has a roof for these occasions. That allowed Roger Federer, Agnieszka Radwanska and Novak Djokovic to get their matches in, but there are many players still waiting to finish first-round matches.

Thursday should see those players through to the second round, provided the weather cooperates. Thursday’s matches, which will feature Andy Murray, Garbine Muguruza and other top players, will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Centre Court, with play on the outer courts getting started bright and early at 6 a.m. ESPN will carry television coverage of the day’s matches from 7 a.m. through around 4:30 p.m., unless the weather intervenes.

A live stream of all matches will be available at WatchESPN.

Muguruza, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, lost her only match between her recent French Open victory and Wimbledon and then struggled in her opening-round match against Camila Giorgi. There’s a long history of players struggling after winning their first Grand Slam title, and Muguruza is trying to break the trend of the last eight first-time Slam winners failing to make it past the quarterfinals in their following Slam.

Muguruza will be up against Jana Cepelova in her Thursday match. Agnieszka Radwanska, the No. 3 seed who was drawn into the top half of the draw with Serena Williams, will be up against Ana Konjuh. The backlog at The Championships is so significant that seeds two through nine will all be in action for the women. That includes Muguruza, Radwanska, Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, Roberta Vinci, Belinda Bencic, Venus Williams and Madison Keys.

On the men’s side, Murray is the big name as he looks to make quick work of Yen-Hsun Lu. Murray was pushed to five sets in his first two matches at the French Open and he was clearly tired out by the time he faced Djokovic in the finals. He had roughly five more hours of court time than Djokovic did by that point. Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Richard Gasquet, Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic are also top-seeded men who will be in action on Thursday.
