Top seed Serena Williams has a tough draw ahead of her that could include a semifinal against Agnieszka Radwanska, but she got some good news on Thursday when Garbine Muguruza, the No. 2 seed, fell in her second-round matchup and is out of Wimbledon.
Wimbledon 2016: Time, TV schedule, online streaming for Friday’s matches
Both top seeds in Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams will be in Wimbledon action on Friday.

Muguruza recently beat Williams in the finals of the French Open just weeks ago, but she was pushed to three sets in her Wimbledon opener and lost to Jana Cepelova on Thursday. She is another in a long line of first-time major winners struggling in their next one. On Friday, Williams will move on to third-round action with a match against Christina McHale, which will be available on ESPN and available via live stream at WatchESPN.
Men’s top seed Novak Djokovic will also be in action, and he gets a bit of tough luck in meeting a seeded opponent so early in the draw. Djokovic will face Sam Querrey, the No. 28 seed, and will obviously be favored. Djokovic is playing on a different level right now, and is the heavy favorite to walk away with another title at The Championships.
There is a full slate of action set for Friday, which was originally just scheduled to include third-round play but which now includes many players trying to finish their second-round matches due to weather delays on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Fortunately, the weather cooperated on Thursday and all the matches on the schedule were played through.
Roger Federer, the third seed, is still going strong and has a match against Daniel Evans on Friday. There are two men’s singles matches that could be highlights of the day though, as No. 6 seed Milos Raonic takes on 27th-seeded American Jack Sock while No. 4 Stan Wawrinka faces the inconsistent but potentially dangerous Juan Martin Del Potro. Both matches have plenty of potential to excite.
Venus Williams will be in action against her first seeded opponent of the tournament in No. 29 Daria Kasatkina. Other top-seeded women in action on Friday include Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep and Madison Keys. Halep will also be facing a seeded opponent in No. 26 Kiki Bertens.
Friday’s matches get underway at 8 a.m. ET on Centre Court and 6 a.m. on outer courts. All of Djokovic, Federer, Wawrinka, Raonic and both Williams sisters will be on the two featured courts. ESPN will carry television coverage beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting well into the afternoon, and WatchESPN will have livestreams of the day’s action on all courts.
