Novak Djokovic will be in action against the unseeded but tough Jerzy Janowicz on the fist day of the 2016 US Open from New York City. The tournament gets underway on Monday and Djokovic will hope that his opening round match goes better than it did at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
US Open 2016: Schedule, TV coverage and live streaming for Day 1
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Angelique Kerber will all be among those playing on the first day of the US Open.

Djokovic drew Juan Martin Del Potro in the Olympics, and he was stunned by the Argentine, his bid for Olympic gold over before it truly began. Del Potro went on to take down Rafael Nadal, and faced Andy Murray in the gold medal match. Del Potro couldn’t make it 3-for-3 of the top players, but he did earn a silver medal.
Del Potro plays Diego Schwartzman in the first round, but he will not see the court until Tuesday. Nadal will be in action on Monday against Denis Istomin, another tough opening round draw. Other men’s top seeds in action on Day 1 include Milos Raonic (the fifth seed), Marin Cilic (the seventh seed), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (the ninth seed) and Gael Monfils (the 10th seed).
As far as women’s singles is concerned, Serena Williams won’t play until Tuesday. Angelique Kerber, the second seed, and Garbine Muguruza, the third seed, will both be in action on Monday. Kerber, who won the silver medal in Rio after falling to unseeded Monica Puig in the gold medal match, will continue her bid for the women’s top ranking in the world against Polona Hercog.
Muguruza, who also fell to Puig in Rio, will play Elise Mertens in her first match on Tuesday. Puig is the No. 32 seed for the US Open and she will be playing Saisai Zheng of China on Monday. Other top women in action include Roberta Vinci (the No. 7 seed), American Madison Keys (the No. 8 seed) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (the No. 9 seed).
Coverage of the US Open’s first day will be carried on television by both ESPN and ESPN2, as will the rest of the tournament. Play begins at 11 a.m. ET, with ESPN carrying television coverage from 1 p.m. through 6 p.m. At that point, ESPN2 will take over until 11 p.m. Live streams of all courts will be available online at WatchESPN.
