US Open 2016: Schedule, TV coverage and live streaming for Day 4

The 2016 US Open second round will continue for singles competition on Thursday. Serena Williams will be in action, trying to punch her ticket to the third round with a match against Vania King.

Williams is the top-ranked woman in the world, though her ranking is in serious jeopardy for the first time in a long time. Angelique Kerber, the second seed, punched her ticket into the third round with a win on Wednesday. Kerber is the chief threat to taking the top spot, especially with Garbine Muguruza, the third seed, falling to unseeded Anastasija Sevastova on Wednesday.

But Williams looked good in her opener against Ekaterina Makarova and should never be counted out. Still, she is defending many more points than Kerber at the US Open and has to finish better than the German to keep her spot. The two could meet in the finals if they make it that far.

Andy Murray, the second seed for the men, will be in action against the tough Marcel Granollers on Thursday. Murray is fresh off his second Olympic gold medal in singles competition and is hoping to take the title at the US Open for the second time as well. Some of his top competition will also be in action on Thursday, including third seed Stan Wawrinka and sixth seed Kei Nishikori.

Wawrinka will face Alessandro Giannessi while Nishikori will be taking on Karen Khachanov on Thursday. Dominic Thiem, the No. 8 seed, will also be in action against Ricardas Berankis. Top seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round via walkover when Jiri Vesely pulled out of their match due to injury on Wednesday.

For the women, some of Serena’s top competition will also be in action. Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, another woman who could take the top ranking, though narrowly, will be facing Naomi Broady. Radwanska and Williams could meet in the semifinals.

Simona Halep, the fifth seed, and Venus Williams, Serena’s sister and sixth seed, will also be in action on Thursday.

Play on Thursday will begin at 11 a.m. ET on all courts. Television coverage will begin at 1 p.m. on ESPN, and will run through 6 p.m. At that point, ESPN2 will pick up coverage for the rest of the evening. Live streams of all courts, beginning when play does at 11 a.m., will be available via WatchESPN.
