Angelique Kerber vs. Karolina Pliskova live stream, US Open 2016: Time, TV schedule and how to watch women’s final online

Angelique Kerber has the world No. 1 ranking in women’s singles tennis. She is the first woman not named Serena Williams to have this ranking in more than three years. Kerber didn’t beat Williams at the US Open to earn the ranking, but as she was defending fewer points at the Grand Slam, she outlasted Williams.

Williams needed to win the US Open to keep her ranking once Kerber reached a certain round of play. But she was eliminated at the hands of Karolina Pliskova, the 10th seed, in the semifinals on Thursday.

Now Kerber, the second seed, can build on her top ranking by winning the US Open, but Pliskova stands in her way. The two will meet in the finals on Saturday to decide this year’s US Open champion.

Kerber and Pliskova have faced each other seven times in the past, with Kerber holding the edge with four wins. Kerber last won on the hard courts at Stanford in 2015, but Pliskova actually owns the more recent win, and it came on a big stage. Kerber originally had a chance to take the No. 1 ranking from Williams at the Cincinnati Masters prior to the US Open, but she needed to win it.

She faced Pliskova in the finals of those Masters, and Pliskova came out on top with a dominant straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1. So while Kerber has won a Grand Slam in the past -- the Australian Open earlier this year -- Pliskova shouldn’t be feeling the pressure as much because she’s already handled Kerber in a high-pressure situation very recently.

This is Kerber’s first time competing in the US Open final, and she becomes the fifth player in history to reach her first three Grand Slam finals in a single year. For Pliskova, a win would not only represent the biggest victory of her career, but a chance at technically besting to world No. 1 players in the same tournament, an excellent feather in her cap.
