US Open 2016: Schedule, TV coverage and live streaming for Day 9

Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber are the top seeds in quarterfinal action at the US Open on Tuesday.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The quarterfinals at the 2016 US Open are set to get under way, and there are definitely some surprises. Rafael Nadal was bounced out of the tournament at the hands of Lucas Pouille, who will face Gael Monfils in quarterfinal action on Tuesday. Novak Djokovic, the top men’s seed, will also be in action against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Pouille needed five sets and then a tiebreak at the end of the final set to take down Nadal, the tournament’s fourth seed. It was a brilliant match and an instant classic, but Pouille will still have his work cut out for him as he goes from one high-energy player to the next in Monfils.

Pouille is the 24th seed at the US Open, while Monfils is seeded 10th.

Djokovic bested Kyle Edmund in three sets to advance to the quarterfinals, and it was the longest he’d played since his opener, which lasted four sets. His second- and third-round opponents both withdrew due to injury, so he should be plenty rested and fresh going into Tuesday’s match against Tsonga, the ninth seed.

Angelique Kerber will be leading the way in women’s action. The second seed, Kerber is the top competition for top seed Serena Williams, who advanced to the quarterfinals herself with a dominant win on Monday. Kerber will face the tough seventh seed Roberta Vinci in the quarterfinals.

Caroline Wozniacki, a former world No. 1 player, is unseeded in the tournament after recent struggles on the court. But she’s playing as well as she ever has and will be facing another unseeded player, Anatasija Sevastova, on Tuesday.

The quarterfinals will get underway at 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday. ESPN will carry live television coverage of the day’s matches, running until 11 p.m. Live streams of all matches will be available online at WatchESPN.
