US Open 2016: Schedule, TV coverage and live streaming for Day 11

Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber will both be in semifinals action on Thursday at the US Open.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The women’s semifinals at the 2016 US Open are set for Thursday, and the top two seeds with be in action. By the end of the day, we’ll know if we’ve got a final featuring Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber or if there will be any big upsets instead.

Williams, the top seed, will be taking on Karolina Pliskova, the women’s 10th seed. Kerber, the second seed, will face unseeded Carolina Wozniacki.

Pliskova has only ever faced Williams once before, in 2014 on the hard courts of Stanford. Williams won that match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. This is the furthest Pliskova has ever been in a Grand Slam, having only made it as far as the third round in the Australian Open and the second round at both the French Open and Wimbledon.

This is Kerber’s second semifinal appearance at the US Open, last making it this far in 2011. She leads the head-to-head record with Wozniacki, but it’s close. They have met 12 times, with Kerber winning seven of the matches, including the most recent in Beijing in 2015. But Wozniacki won earlier that year as well, so this one could go either way.

Wozniacki, a former world No. 1 player, made it to the finals at the US Open in 2009 and 2014, but has never won a Grand Slam title despite her top ranking. Kerber won her first at the Australian Open earlier in the year. Wozniacki is unseeded in the tournament because she has struggled in recent years, but her play at the US Open has been brilliant.

The men’s and women’s doubles semifinals will also take place on Thursday, while the men’s singles semifinals are set for Friday. The winners of Thursday’s women’s singles semifinals will play in the women’s singles final on Saturday, with the men’s final on Sunday.

ESPN will carry both women’s singles semifinal matches live on Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET from Arthur Ashe Stadium. Live streams of both matches will also be available via WatchESPN.
