The second day of the French Open saw the elimination of American Jack Sock, the 14th seed on the men’s side, but few upsets outside of that. The first day saw the top seed on the women’s side, Angelique Kerber, eliminated. But big names including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Garbine Muguruza all made it through Day 2.

Djokovic and Muguruza are the defending champions in the French Open.

Djokovic, the second seed, drew the tough opener of Marcel Granollers, and he took him down in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Muguruza, the fourth seed, also had a tough draw in Francesca Schiavone, but she made short work of her with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Nadal, the favorite to win and the “King of Clay,” made short work of his opener, Benoit Paire, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. There were another four top-10-seeded men in action, and at the time of writing both of Milos Raonic, the fifth seed, and David Goffin, the 10th seed, won their matches in straight sets.

Also on the women’s side, 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki needed three sets, but ultimately prevailed over Jaimee Fourlis, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Andy Murray, the top seed on the men’s side, will play his first-round match on Tuesday.
