FC Nordsjaelland vs. Chelsea: Final score 0-4, Mata’s brace leads the Blues

A late flurry of goals allowed Chelsea to pull away for a 4-0 victory over a valiant FC Nordsjaelland side

FC Nordsjaelland put up a valiant fight for just under 80 minutes, but were over run by three goals in the final ten minutes as Chelsea routed the Danish side 4-0 in Copenhagen. Juan Mata led the way with a brace.

Chelsea spent a majority of the first half camped out in Nordsjaelland’s half of the pitch, sitting around the campfire, telling stories and roasting marshmallows. While that may sound absurd, for as control as they were of the match, the Blues didn’t spend it peppering the Danish side’s goal. In fact, by halftime the two teams were even on shots, but unfortunately for the Wild Tigers, it’s the one that gets through that counts.

in the 33rd minute Fernando Torres bumped a Nordsjaelland defender off the ball and moved in on goal before dropping a pass to the trailing Frank Lampard. The midifiedler one touched the ball across the box to Juan Mata who cooley beat goalkeeper Jesper Hansen. I expect the Nordsjaelland supporters might feel a bit agrieved on the play, wanting a foul called on Torres. The contact was a little rough, but it appeared to be legal shoulder to shoulder contact.

The Wild Tigers started the second a bit better, even coming close to equalizing in the 51st minute after Joshua John sent a shot just wide of Petr Cech's post. Mikkel Beckmann was able to sneak around the Chelsea defense a few minutes later and get on the end of a pass, but his header went wide of the goal.

Chelsea were simply too much for Nordsjaelland in the end as the Blues put three goals in late to turn a close match in to a rout. Chelsea scored three times in a ten minute span, starting 79th minute with a well placed free kick from David Luiz 79' and ending with a short range goal from Ramires. Juan Mata scored his second goal of the match in between for good measure.

The win puts Chelsea a top the group with the surprising Shakhtar Donetsk who drew 1-1 with Juventus.
