Slick new uniforms are all the rage across the college football landscape, from the ever-altering looks of Oregon, to the craze of matte helmets with alternative logos and the completely metallic look like that worn by Rutgers late in the season, and they are now coming to the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl, courtesy of adidas.

The new unis certainly sound pretty high-tech, or TECHFIT, as adidas calls them:

Thirty percent lighter than traditional jerseys, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl adidas TECHFIT uniform is designed to help make players faster at every position on the field. The updated head-to-toe look includes a TECHFIT jersey and pants, TECHFIT compression base layer, Team Speed socks and the new adidas CrazyQuick and adizero 5-Star 2.0 cleats. It also includes a new helmet design utilizing the Xenith X2 helmet the All-Americans wear.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl helmets and TECHFIT pants feature a digital camo-inspired pattern with solid light and dark fields and a checkerboard-like design. East squad jerseys are black with vivid yellow accents and the West will take the field in vivid yellow jerseys.

Since the jerseys do fit so well, it’s tougher for defenders grab a handful to make a tackle and more difficult for offensive linemen to grab, says adidas, an innovation that they believe will only help lead to a faster, more exciting game.

As for the validity of those claims? Well, the game on Saturday will tell, but there’s no question that these players were plenty fast and athletic before.

Here’s the jersey for the West team:
