SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- 2013 Clairton (Pa.) wide receiver Tyler Boyd committed to the Pitt Panthers during the second quarter of the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl.

The 6-2, 182-pound wideout choose Pitt over finalists West Virginia and Michigan St. Not only did Boyd name the Panthers as his leader in recent days, but he never took official visits to Morgantown or East Lansing, leaving little doubt about his eventual decision.

Notre Dame, Penn St., Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin were other notable schools to extend offers to the consensus four-star prospect, who said after his commitment that he may take other visits before Signing Day.

The addition of Boyd may help reduce the sting of Pitt losing another highly-regarded wide receiver from Pennsylvania -- consensus five-star prospect Robert Foster, who chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Panthers just before Christmas.

Boyd is the 22nd 2013 commit for Pitt and a big one because he’s the second wide receiver to pledge at a need position (Pitt is losing two of their top three wide receivers) and only the third four-star prospect (by Rivals) to join the class.
