SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- 2013 Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes during the 3rd quarter of the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl.

Muhammad chose Miami over finalists Notre Dame and Alabama. Like several other prospects who pledged at the Army Bowl, the strongside defensive end prospect had not visited one of his finalists -- Notre Dame.

Howver, the story goes that Muhammad was strongly considering committing to the Fighting Irish sight unseen, in no small part because a former teammate plays there, but had academic issues that would have kept him from being admitted.

A consensus four-star prospect ranked among the top several strongside defensive end prospects in the country, the 6-4, 224-pounder is a bit on the small side for a strongside prospect, but has the natural strength to hold up against the run and isn’t an elite edge threat to earn consideration as a weakside prospect.

Still with only 13 commits after Muhammad’s pledge, the Hurricanes need to add a significant number of players to the 2013 class, but did fill a need by adding the New Jersey product, as Muhammad is only the second defensive end to commit, with the other an undersized prospect unranked by Rivals.
