Say what you want about Thierry Henry, but he continues to show that even at 35 years old he's still capable of doing things few people in the world are capable of doing. The latest example came in the New York Red Bulls' 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, as he scored what turned out to be the game-winner on a bicycle kick in the 88th minute.
Thierry Henry’s bicycle goal reminds us all that he’s still very, very good
Sure, he’s 35 years old and his best years are behind him, but Henry is still capable of some absolutely brilliant moments.
Hopefully you've now watched the video above, but just in case, you haven't I'll walk you through it. Juninho puts in a corner that Markus Holgerson blindly heads toward the back post. That's where Henry is waiting, and he nonchalantly hits a right-footed overhead shot well inside the far post. Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins has absolutely no chance to stop it.
That was Henry’s fifth goal of the season and the second one that was a bicycle kick. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I’m fairly certain that’s as many as the rest of the players in MLS have made over the past year.
Henry clearly is not the player he once was, that much is obvious. He takes plays off and even entire games. He's probably going to skip the Red Bulls' next game against the New England Revolution because it's being played on artificial turf. But these moments of brilliance make putting up with all that totally worthwhile, at least from a league perspective.
