Hull United AFC plays in the 11th tier of English football so they don’t get many fans. But club chairman Jamie Waltham came up with a brilliant idea to lure people to the stadium: pay them.

Hull United AFC paid fans £2 to watch their team play.

Waltham dug into his own pocket and paid every fan who came out to the team’s home opener on Wednesday £2. And it worked because over 400 fans showed up.
“We want them to come and see if it is something they may enjoy,” Waltham told the Independent. “If they like it, we hope they will come again.
“The more people that turn up the better - even if it costs me more money.”
Waltham also plays for the team, and said that he wants to provide football fans a chance to watch matches at an affordable price. As proud as he is of Hull City, now that they're in the Premier League, tickets aren't exactly cheap and Hull United is his alternative.
The fans who showed up for the match on Wednesday got a good show, too, as Hull beat Hedon Rangers, 4-1. A win, along with an extra £2 -- most of which was probably given back to the team for a £2 beer -- and there isn’t much reason for fans not to come back.
