Cunningham had to be held back from challenging Carrington by teammates and staff after the play.
Cunningham started a firestorm last month by saying she opposes trans women in the WNBA during an interview with ESPN. There are no trans women currently attempting to play in the league, but it’s starting a political discourse that has engulfed the league for weeks.
The United Center quickly showed a woman in a trans rights t-shirt after Carrington’s foul on Cunningham. Carrington received big cheers from the home crowd as he walked into the tunnel to go to the locker room.
