Lou Lopez Sénéchal is opting to sit out the 2025 WNBA season — and won’t reunite with Paige Bueckers.

Sénéchal was the Wings’ fifth overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft after averaging 15.5 points per game in her senior year season. That came after a four-year college career at Fairfield in which Sénéchal was the primary scoring option.
She missed the entire 2023 season recovering from injury, but returned in 2024 to make her WNBA debut. The 6’1 guard — who was the first Mexican-born player to be drafted into the WNBA — appeared in 27 games in 2024, averaging 0.9 points in 4.6 minutes per game. Especially considering the Wings’ injury struggles, Sénéchal’s on-court opportunities were very limited.
Currently, Sénéchal is playing professionally for the Spanish club Jairis, where she’s averaging 9.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
The 2023 draft ultimately featured a slew of high-impact players, headlined by Aliyah Boston at No. 1. That year, the Wings effectively secured three Top-5 picks: Maddy Seigrist at No. 3. Stephanie Soares at No. 4 (via the Mystics), and Sénéchal at No. 5. Only Siegrist remains on the roster, as Soares was waived in January.

Had Sénéchal remained on next year’s roster, she very likely would have been reunited with former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers. Bueckers is widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, which the Dallas Wings have control over.
Though they lose one potential rotation player, the Dallas Wings have a promising roster next season. The Wings will be led by longtime franchise player Arike Ogunbowale, one of the league’s most prolific scorers. This offseason, they also acquired four promising rotation players: DiJonai Carrington from the Connecticut Sun, NaLyssa Smith from the Indiana Fever, and Myisha Hines-Allen from the Minnesota Lynx. On top of that, Siegrist will be back for another season after an improved sophomore campaign.
Sénéchal got very limited opportunities last year, so it’s not clear how big a priority she was for the franchise in the long term. Now, for reasons that have yet to be reported, she won’t even be on the roster.
