Miz and Ziggler have had a pretty classic wrestling feud over the last month. Ziggler is an immensely popular fan favorite, while Miz is running a self-important movie star gimmick. It’s a new gimmick since he came back, and pairing him with Ziggler has been a great way to get people to boo him. And in case the message hadn’t gotten across, Miz took the opportunity to come out and diss the Lakers before the match.
The match was a pretty fast-paced one, with any slow-downs coming from Miz leaving the ring to avoid getting hit in the face. He also had Ziggler in a figure-four leglock for a long period of time, but Ziggler was able to get to the ropes to break it.
About five minutes into the match, there was a great spot where Ziggler looked like he was going to hit a Fameasser, but Miz countered into his finisher, the Skull-Crushing Finale. Surprisingly, Ziggler got his shoulder up on the pin, then later went on to connect with a Zig-Zag before pinning Miz to become the new Intercontinental Champion. It’s a great fan-friendly start to the show, so get ready for some heel victories.
