Royal Rumble results: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro take care of The New Day

Cats! Tornado sirens! Cheating!

Tyson Kidd and Cesaro are the best new tag team in WWE, and they might be heading for something really fun after beating The New Day on the Royal Rumble pre-show.

The New Day and the Kidd-Cesaro team haven’t had a lengthy feud, but they’ve had a slew of pretty fun TV matches over the last few weeks. Hopefully this serves as a blow-off match to get one of them to bigger and better things.

To spice things up, the heels wore black and white shirts to the ring that said ‘Brass Ring Club’. If you don’t get the joke, the Bullet Club is a Japanese heel stable mostly made up of foreigners whose gimmick is that they don’t respect Japanese wrestling, and ‘grabbing the brass ring’ is a phrase Vince McMahon’s used in the past to refer to performers who make the effort to get to the top of the business. Cesaro, in particular, is a talented performer who’s been accused of not ‘grabbing the brass ring’. Guys talking smack about WWE or appearing to go off script is almost always planned, but for fun, we’re going to pretend this wasn’t.

While this was advertised as a six-man tag team match involving Adam Rose, it turned out to be a regular tag match instead, so Rose and his Rosebuds just sat ringside with Kidd’s wife Natalya while Xavier Woods was the odd man out for the New Day.

The babyfaces got their fun spot in where Big E throws Kofi over the top rope and onto an opponent, but in the home of ECW, the crowd was hilariously pro-Cesaro and Kidd. The first big near fall came just over five minutes in, when Kofi kicked out after a diving elbow by Kidd. The referee also caught Cesaro sneakily helping Kidd keep Kingston down with another pin from outside the ring.

Eventually the heels prevailed off a bit of heelin’. From the outside, Cesaro delivered a big European Uppercut to Kingston, allowing Kidd to finally pin him for the win.
