WWE’s latest pay-per-view goes down on Sunday night, with the company’s ninth installment of Night of Champions, live from Houston. It’s a pretty stacked card, with eight matches and all five WWE championships being defended. At least one of those titles is likely to change hands, which is just one of the many reasons you should be looking forward to the event.
WWE Night of Champions 2015: The full rundown and why you should care
Every belt is on the line. Will there be new champions walking out of Houston?

Night of Champions begins at 8 p.m. ET on pay-per-view and the WWE Network on Sunday night. (The Kickoff show begins at 7 p.m.) Let’s find out why we should be excited about it.
Kickoff Match: Neville & The Lucha Dragons vs. Cosmic Wasteland (Stardust & The Ascension)
What am I looking at here? Neville is “The Man Who Ran Afoul of Gravity,” a tiny, hypermuscular man with breathtaking athleticism. The Lucha Dragons are Sin Cara and Kalisto, two luchadores who love trampolines and the art of lucha. Kalisto is the living embodiment of “That little guy hasn’t done anything yet!”
Cosmic Wasteland, meanwhile, is comprised of Stardust -- a man who believes himself to be a real-life super-villain -- and The Ascension, two quasi-Illuminati bruisers. Since Stardust has been channeling Mister Sinister, it makes sense that he’d form his own version of the Marauders.
Why you should care: It’s superheroes vs. super-villains! It’s exciting that, after being treated like a joke ever since they came up to the main roster, not only does The Ascension have something to do, but their pairing with Stardust makes perfect sense.
Pitting the three most cartoonish high-flyers on the roster against the most cartoonishly dastardly baddies is a recipe for fun and should set a fantastic tone for the rest of the evening.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev
What am I looking at here? This is the most backward feud the WWE has done in a while, but we finally appear to be approaching its endgame. Rusev, a national hero for TWO countries, was kinda mean to his ex, so Ziggler basically took ownership of her and they wouldn’t stop rubbing their relationship in Rusev’s face, long after it involved him. Then Ziggler started scamming on Rusev’s new girlfriend and wouldn’t stop sneak-attacking him.
Dolph Ziggler is supposed to be the good guy here.
Why you should care: Because WWE might finally turn things around and make a move that would make the real bad guy the bad guy. Or because this might be the end of the storyline and all parties will move on to better things. Either way, it’s going to be a brighter day on Monday.
Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & a mystery partner vs. The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper & Braun Strowman)
What am I looking at here? Bray Wyatt is the leader of a quasi-Satanic hillbilly cult that recently got a new member, in the form of the terrifying and gargantuan Braun Strowman. Reigns and Ambrose may or may not have a third man joining them to even the odds, although it’s hard to imagine who might be able to successfully match up against Strowman.
Why you should care: It’s going to be fun learning who the mystery partner is, even if it ends up being someone underwhelming like Randy Orton. This will also be our first extended look at Strowman, so we’ll have learned a lot by the end of the match.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Ryback (c) vs. Kevin Owens
What am I looking at here? Ryback, notoriously ravenous optimist, has held the Intercontinental Championship since May. Kevin Owens, notorious jerk, has taken offense to Ryback’s relentless optimism and is promising to take his title.
Why you should care: This is another chance for Owens to prove that he’s a mold-breaker in professional wrestling. He’s been having tremendous matches ever since he made his WWE debut and this could be the first step that leads to his first main-roster title.
United States Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. John Cena
What am I looking at here? Last month at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins became the first person ever to hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and United States Championship at the same time, when he defeated John Cena in a title vs. title match (with the help of Jon Stewart). Now he’s forced to defend both titles in one night. The rumor is that this match will actually be the main event, so don’t be surprised if the world title match happens early and this one closes the show.
Why you should care: Every time Rollins and Cena lock up, they create something special. Rollins will likely end up being the MVP of the night, since he’s the world champ and pulling double duty, but Rollins/Cena actually has some of the makings of a legendary feud. It’s possible that in 10 years, we’ll be talking about this rivalry like it’s on the same level as Edge vs. Cena.
Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz
What am I looking at here? The Dudley Boyz just made their return to WWE after literally a 10-year absence, during which time they traveled the world and are now one of the most decorated tag teams in the history of professional wrestling.
The New Day, meanwhile, are the best thing about WWE right now, full stop. Xavier Woods has taken to playing a trombone outside the ring during matches and their clapping, skipping and dancing act has them on a meteoric rise within the company. That’s what the power of positivity will do for you.
Why you should care: As if there weren’t enough reasons to love The New Day, they’ve begun a “Save the Tables” campaign since the Dudleys returned. The Dudleys are itching to put The New Day through a table, but they’re itching even more to take the tag titles and add to their legacy.
Divas Championship Match: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Charlotte
What am I looking at here? On Monday, Nikki set the record for the longest single title reign since the inception of the Divas Championship, but it took chicanery to retain the title in her match against Charlotte (who happens to be Ric Flair’s daughter). Chicanery most foul. Now Stephanie McMahon has laid down the law: if Nikki loses her match at Night of Champions for ANY reason, including disqualification or countout, she’ll lose her title as well.
Why you should care: This is the first singles or championship PPV match for the women since the beginning of the much-hyped (and highly criticized) Divas Revolution. Both women will be looking to steal the show and validate the storyline, with the added emotion of Charlotte seeking her first Divas title reign (and her Hall of Fame dad almost certainly in the building). Nikki and Charlotte have the chance to shut a lot of people up, which is definitely a reason to watch.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Sting
What am I looking at here? Sting will be having just his fourth since coming to the WWE. He’s also challenging for a WWE championship for the first time ever. Rollins is livid at Sting because Sting stole a statue of himself and crushed it in a garbage truck.
(Which was admittedly a real jerk move by Sting.)
Why you should care: Will Sting win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? Will Sheamus cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and challenge for the title no matter who wins? This match, perhaps more than any other, has people guessing. And of course, as we’ve said many times: there’s nothing more exciting in wrestling than the unknown.
Hunker down, everyone. It’s time to watch some wrestling.
