WrestleMania 32 results: Baron Corbin wins Andre memorial battle royale

Baron Corbin comes from NXT straight to winning the Andre battle royale.

Baron Corbin has been one of the more pleasant surprises of NXT’s developmental program over the past year. At WrestleMania, he put his stamp on the main roster, becoming a surprise winner of the third annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale.

Twenty men started inside the ring, with Mark Henry, Kane, Big Show and Diamond Dallas Page making their entrants. But the biggest surprise was saved for last, when NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal made his way to the ring. Shaq and Big Show teamed up for a double-choke slam on Kane before everybody went after the big guys.

Fandango was the first guy to go out, followed by Damien Sandow. Shaq and Big Show continued their staredown in the ring, until all the superstars ganged up to slowly eliminate both Show and Shaq from the match. Since Show won last year, and Cesaro (2014 winner) didn’t enter, this guaranteed we’d see a new winner in 2016.

The rest of the battle royale progressed as you’d expect, with most of the unimportant names going out early. DDP got eliminated by one of the Ascension members, only for said member to get eliminated by Tatanka, one of the many veterans making a surprise appearance here.

With the ring thinning out, the Social Outcasts (Bo Dallas, Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose) started to make their presence felt. However, they quickly ran into Kane and Corbin, which proceeded to eliminate half the team. Slater tried a splash but got caught by Henry and thrown out.

The final men left in the ring were Kane, Henry, Darren Young, Bo Dallas and Corbin. Kane and Young teamed up to eliminate Henry, but Kane turned on Young, eliminating both him and Dallas in the same move. However, Kane didn’t account for Corbin, and the NXT superstar threw out the big red demon, winning the trophy by surprise.
