WrestleMania 32 results: Charlotte submits Becky Lynch, claims new Women’s Championship

The Divas Championship is no more, but Charlotte maintained her dominance. She claimed the new Women’s Championship that was just unveiled at WrestleMania.

Charlotte held the Divas Championship for several months heading up to WrestleMania. She’ll walk out the winner of a much more prestigious title.

The match got some historical significance earlier in the night. During a pre-show ceremony, WWE Hall of Famer Lita came out to introduce the new WWE Women’s Championship, officially retiring the much-maligned Divas Championship.

Sasha Banks’ entrance got by far the most fanfare — her cousin Snoop Dogg played her to the ring and she’s wearing gear inspired by Eddie Guerrero. Charlotte, of course, came out in a glorious cape reminiscent of her father, Ric Flair.

The match started with a bunch of roll-up attempts as all three women tried to get the quick pin. Becky and Sasha ended up in the ring together before Charlotte took out Sasha with a slingshot from the outside to the ropes. After that, it was the former Divas Champion working over Becky, trying to become the new Women’s Champion.

Sasha got back into the picture and took it to Charlotte in the corner, before Becky took her out. Becky eventually got the Disarmer locked on Charlotte until Sasha broke it up. Charlotte hit a backbreaker on Becky and went for the figure eight leglock, but couldn’t quite get it in until Sasha broke up the hold with a huge frog splash.

Becky hit a German suplex on Sasha and nailed Charlotte with a pumphandle suplex for the two-count. Sasha and Becky did some technical mat work for a while and Sasha got the advantage with jumping knees into the corner. She also took out Charlotte with a crazy suicide dive to the outside.

Ric Flair was running interference outside, but Sasha distracted him long enough for Becky to wipe him out with a dive over the ropes. With Flair out of the picture, Charlotte was all alone, but she was up to the challenge, hitting a top-rope moonsault on the outside onto both women.

Charlotte hit a double Natural Selection on both in the ring, but it only got a two-count. She kept making desperate covers but couldn’t end the match. Sasha got Charlotte into an electric chair position and Becky knocked both of them out, getting a two-count on Charlotte and locking her into the Disarmer. Sasha broke it up and hit the Bank Statement on Becky, but Charlotte locked the Figure Eight on Sasha’s loose legs. Becky pulled Sasha under the ropes, forcing the break.

With all three women on their knees, Charlotte hit chops on her two opponents. Becky and Sasha wailed on the champion for a bit and hit some shots on Becky before Charlotte nailed her with a spear. Becky took the fight to Charlotte in the corner, her desperation showing. Becky climbed the turnbuckle and Sasha joined her, knocking Becky off in the process. Becky knocked Sasha into a tree of woe and hit Charlotte with a pumphandle suplex off the top rope.

Sasha tried another Bank Statement on Becky but Charlotte threw her out of the ring, setting up another Figure Eight that secured the win. Becky tapped out, giving Charlotte the swanky new Women’s Championship belt.
