Here is all you need to know about WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose, who is now officially a member of the SmackDown roster thanks to Tuesday’s WWE brand split draft.

Ambrose may be a lunatic, but he’s OUR lunatic

In the wake of Daniel Bryan getting sidelined by injury and ultimately retiring, WWE fans went searching for a new lovable underdog to support and try to thrust to the top of the company. They landed on Ambrose, who despite living on the Lunatic Fringe, had the same habit of doing anything and everything to push through the pain and get a win that propelled Bryan to the WWE Championship.

And make no mistake, Ambrose earned the fans’ love. His high-effort style is one that fans adore, and his ability to bounce back from immense amounts of punishment to work his way back into a match or hit his finisher, Dirty Deeds, out of nowhere, can make a crowd pop like crazy. Add that to the fact that he’ll fight anyone, anywhere, any time, and under any stipulation, and it’s easy to see why he’s become a fan favorite

The king of The Shield

Seth Rollins may be the Architect, Roman Reigns may be the Guy, but Ambrose is the one who came out of Money in the Bank as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion over his former Shield brothers. And while the trio were together dominating WWE as The Shield, it was Ambrose who was the only one to win a singles title, holding the U.S. Championship for almost a year, the longest single reign since the title was brought to the WWE in 2003. Reigns and Rollins could only hold the tag team belts for just shy of five months, and neither ever held a singles belt until long after Rollins stabbed Ambrose and Reigns in the back.

Finally at the top

Two years after The Shield broke up, and a year after his two-month-long run at Rollins ended in a brutal ladder match loss, Ambrose has finally gotten his revenge. When Rollins beat Reigns at Money in the Bank last month, Ambrose was quick to cash in the briefcase and contract he’d won only an hour earlier, ambushing Rollins mid-celebration and hitting Dirty Deeds to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for himself. His title reign was a long time coming, and it’s one that fans everywhere were thrilled to see him finally achieve.
