The Miz came out looking like a Broadway star, and he left looking even better, successfully defending his WWE Intercontinental title in style against Apollo Crews at SummerSlam 2016.

Give Crews credit, he did everything he could to take that belt from Miz. His athleticism was on full display with a lot of impressive offense, but Miz is a cagey opponent and he had a counter for every move Crews threw at him. All it took was a momentary distraction from his wife Maryse at ringside to give Miz the opening he needed to land a Skull-Crushing Finale, ending Crews’ dream of becoming a champion himself in short order.
What we learned: Miz is still a champion, both in our hearts and in the WWE. He’s been the Intercontinental Champion for almost five months now, taking on and overcoming some impressive challenges along the way. He may not be popular, but WWE is treating him like a serious champion.
As for Crews, some may be disappointed that he didn’t win, but it’s important to keep in mind that he’s still not a finished product yet. He was rushed some to get here, both as part of the main roster and to be put into a title scene, but he worked his tail off in his title match and looked impressive. He’s got a bright future, and it’s only a matter of time until he’s really ready to be a champion in the WWE.
