Naomi pins ‘WWE SmackDown’ champion Alexa Bliss in 6-woman tag team pre-show match

The women of “SmackDown Live” went toe to toe, and the winner was a big surprise.

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss wound up infuriated after taking the pinfall in the six-woman tag team match that kicked off the Royal Rumble pre-show, with Naomi coming away as the surprise winner of the match. Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Nikki Bella were the ones left celebrating while the overwhelming favorites of Bliss, Natalya, and the returning Mickie James were stunned in defeat.

Bliss and company had to weather an early storm, with Nikki Bella and Naomi coming out strong and leading what eventually turned into a 3-on-3 suplex chain. Becky Lynch started to bring the fire as she always does, but some clever moves from Bliss and Mickie turned the momentum around, leaving the Irish wrestler isolated from her teammates for a long, long time.

Eventually, though, things started to break down, with all six women in the ring, and that allowed Lynch to tag Naomi in. After Bliss and her team all got spilled outside of the ring by a series of team attacks from Lynch, Naomi, and Nikki Bella, the SmackDown champion worked her way back into the ring and looked like she was gaining the upper hand on Naomi, but a sudden roundhouse kick over the top rope sent Bliss crashing to the mat.

One flip and cover later, the match was over and the challenging team was celebrating, while Bliss and Mickie James raged over their surprising defeat. With Naomi pinning the champion and the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view looming just two weeks away, the title picture suddenly seems to have been thrown wide, wide open.
