NXT TakeOver: Orlando: Start time, TV schedule, and live stream for WWE event

It’s time for NXT to take over WrestleMania weekend.

WWE

Even though it’s WrestleMania weekend, it’s time for NXT to take over again. WWE’s developmental brand knows how to put on an incredible show to try upstaging the main roster, and they’ll certainly be doing everything they can to make WrestleMania be truly special to be the best show of the weekend.

With another NXT Championship match between Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura, an NXT Women’s Championship match between the unstoppable Asuka and the fast-rising Ember Moon, and a huge NXT Tag Team Championship match on the card, it promises to be an exciting night — and that’s without the grudge match between Tye Dillinger, his allies, and Eric Young’s SAnitY, or the debut of the latest NXT superstar, Aleister Black.

On Saturday, there will be no April Fool’s in Orlando. There’s just going to be an amazing night of wrestling.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bobby Roode (c) — NXT Championship match

At NXT TakeOver: San Antonio in January, it looked like then-NXT Champion Nakamura had Roode beaten. They’d had a fantastic match, and Nakamura had him lined up for the Kinshasa knee strike to the back of the head that won him the title in the first place — but when Nakamura hit Roode with his finishing move, instead of going for the cover, the King of Strong Style collapsed to the mat in agony. He’d injured his knee, but despite trainers trying to stop the match, Nakamura insisted on continuing, which gave Roode the opening he needed to work over the injured knee and hit two Glorious DDTs on the wounded champion to take the title for himself.

Since then, Roode has crowed about his accomplishment as the next great phase of NXT, while Nakamura has licked his wounds. Roode recently defended his title against the returning Kassius Ohno, while Nakamura only just made a trimphant return to the ring, proving the health of his knee in a fiery encounter against former WWE Cruiserweight champion T.J. Perkins.

NXT General Manager William Regal decided that was enough to set up their rematch at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, and Nakamura will be hoping to celebrate his one-year anniversary in WWE by topping his incredible debut match against Sami Zayn at Takeover: Dallas with a successful title challenge, becoming the first three-time NXT Champion in history.

Asuka (c) vs. Ember MoonNXT Women’s Championship match

There’s a rare and exciting thing about this title match, and it goes much deeper than how incredibly talented both of these women are. To date, neither Asuka nor Ember Moon have ever been pinned or submitted in NXT, with Asuka’s streak reaching 160 matches recently.

That’s an incredible run, though one that seems to have awakened quite the ego in the NXT Women’s Champion, who won her title one year ago at TakeOver: Dallas from current WWE Raw Women’s Champion, Bayley. Asuka has seemed incredibly arrogant of late, and has been dismissive of Ember Moon every time the subject of her also-unbeaten challenger has come up in recent months.

Ember Moon is not someone you should be dismissive of, though. She has the kind of athleticism and high-impact moves that some of Asuka’s recent opponents haven’t brought to the table to challenge her. This will be a different kind of match, and if you see Ember go to the top rope in the corner, Asuka will be in big trouble — Ember’s unique finisher, the Eclipse, is an eye-popping corkscrew, float-over Stunner that is a devastating move when it hits. If anyone can find a counter for it, though, it’s the wily and technical Asuka, and watching these two dangerous women go toe-to-toe will be exciting.

The Revival vs. Authors of Pain (c) vs. #DIYTriple Threat elimination match for the NXT Tag Team Championship

Tag team triple-threat matches have been a rare thing in NXT, but with the current NXT Tag Team Champioship title picture there’s no other good solution. The Authors of Pain took the tag belts from Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano of #DIY at San Antonio, but The Revival are never a team that you can count out of a championship picture.

The former two-time champs have made their presence felt in a big way during the buildup to this title match, including Dash Wilder sneaking a big win in a triple-threat match against Gargano and Akam from the Authors of Pain in the final NXT show before TakeOver.

The gigantic duo of Akam and Rezar make the Authors of Pain a formidable opponent, especially as the reigning champions, but what truly makes them daunting is the presence of the always crafty Paul Ellering lurking outside the ring. Their leader is a legend in tag team wrestling, having overseen some of the best teams in history, and when he says he’s developed the “algorithm for greatness” in the tag team division, you have to listen.

But #DIY won the Tag Team Championship in the first place by always finding a way through no matter what the odds, and The Revival can be sneaky with the best of them. The fact that this is an elimination match adds an interesting dynamic to this affair — how the three teams approach what will essentially be the first of two falls will bear close monitoring, as will seeing whether bitter rivals

The Revival and #DIY will be willing to work together to take down the Authors as they try to take what each team sees as their titles back. There’s no clear favorite here, and this might be the must-watch match of the night given how great the tag division has been in NXT for the last two years.

Aleister Black vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas

This match isn’t involved in any title pictures, but it’s still a big one. NXT likes to debut big new talents at shows like this one, and TakeOver: Orlando will be no exception, with Aleister Black making his long-awaited debut in a match against the arrogant Andrade “Cien” Almas. Black was a major star in the European wrestling scene, and ever since it was announced that he’d signed with NXT, fans have been waiting with bated breath to see what he has in store for the United States.

We got a taste of how good Black can be at the United Kingdom Championship tournament where he had a special non-tournament match against Neville under his former ring name, Tommy End. It was a dazzling match that, while Black ultimately lost, saw the newcomer push the current Cruiserweight champion to the absolute limits.

His opponent on Saturday has yet to truly win over NXT’s fans, but that doesn’t mean that Cien Almas isn’t a talented wrestler, and a vicious one. Black will have to perform at a high level in a big hurry if he’s going to win in his debut — and if he does, that will be a big statement to make on his debut.

Tye Dillinger, Ruby Riot, No Way Jose & Roderick Strong vs. SAnitY (Eric Young, Nikki Cross, Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe)

It’s been a long and brutal few months for Tye Dillinger, who’s had yet more setbacks in his efforts to feel like he’s accomplishing what he can in NXT. Of late, those setbacks have taken the form of Eric Young and SAnitY, who once sought for him to join their ranks, then unleashed their wrath on him when he refused.

Instead, they were joined by the brutish Killian Dain, who at times has been simply too powerful for Dillinger to deal with, even when joined by his friends No Way Jose and Roderick Strong. Nikki Cross has been a wild and unpredictable element in their encounters that has often tipped the scales in SAnitY’s favor, but Dillinger and friends have a new ally to counter her madness — Ruby Riot, who has already declared that she’ll be the one to show Nikki “what crazy really is.”

Suffice it to say, this match is going to be chaotic as Dillinger tries to put SAnitY behind him once and for all — unless Eric Young can finally break him and his friends once and for all. Don’t take your eyes off the screen during this one, because if you do you will miss something.
