WrestleMania 33 results: Neville retains Cruiserweight Championship over Austin Aries

The king continues to rule the cruiserweights.

WrestleMania 33 kicked off with a strong match pitting Neville against Austin Aries for the Cruiserweight Championship. After a fast-paced, stiff affair, Neville pinned Aries to retain his title.

The two men started out with some smooth chain wrestling. Aries looked to get the upper hand diving to the outside, but Neville caught him with an enziguri on the apron. Back in the ring, Neville and Aries both traded stiff strikes and forearms.

Neville got knocked outside the ring again, and this time Aries connected with his suicide dive between the ropes, getting a two count. Neville recovered and took control of the match, setting up his deadly superplex on the turnbuckle. Aries blocked it and dropped Neville with a huge dropkick off the top rope for another two count.

The match continued to be a hard-hitting affair with Neville landing a snap German suplex on Aries. He then hit a superkick and a deadweight suplex, which nearly put away Aries before he kicked out. Neville tried setting up his Rings of Saturn submission, but Aries escaped and hit a nasty rolling elbow, sending Neville out to the floor.

With his options dwindling, Neville attempted his Red Arrow move, but Aries put him down with a hurricanrana and hit a 450 splash. That nearly got the win, but Neville kicked out at the last moment. Aries then locked in the Last Chancery submission, but Neville got out of it and kicked the rope into Aries’ eyes. The Red Arrow finally put Aries down for the three count.
