WrestleMania 33 results: Kevin Owens wins U.S. title over Chris Jericho

The former best friends collided at WrestleMania, with Kevin Owens coming out on top over Chris Jericho.

Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho had a nasty falling out over the past several months, with Owens turning on his friend and challenging him for the United States Championship. Their blood feud came to a head at WrestleMania, which ended with Owens pinning Jericho and winning the U.S. title.

There was no time for a feeling-out process — Jericho immediately put Owens in the Walls of Jericho before nailing him with a crossbody on the outside. The former friends got back into the ring and Owens stopped Jericho’s momentum with a superkick. Owens hit two cannonballs into the corner and went to work on Jericho.

Owens got in some more offense, but Jericho got a moment of reprieve when he hit a dropkick, briefly stunning his larger opponent. Both men went outside and Jericho hit a back-body drop on Owens onto the floor. Back in the ring, Jericho went for the Codebreaker, but Owens countered it into a powerbomb for a two count.

Both men went up top and Jericho nailed a Frankensteiner for two. He went for the Lionsault, but Owens superkicked him for another near-fall. Jericho then got his knees up for an Owens frog splash, but Owens blocked another Lionsault attempt before Jericho got knees up yet again on an Owens moonsault.

After blocking a pop-up powerbomb attempt, Jericho finally landed the Lionsault for a two count. He tried another Frankensteiner, but Owens countered it into the Boston Crab, stealing Jericho’s own submission move. Jericho escaped and countered the cannonball into the Walls of Jericho, which only ended when Owens grabbed the bottom rope and forced a break.

Owens hit the pop-up powerbomb out of nowhere, but Jericho managed to kick out of his finishing move. He went for another powerbomb and Jericho turned it into a Codebreaker, which could’ve been a three count had Owens not put a finger on the rope. Owens rolled to the outside and caught Jericho into a powerbomb on the ring apron, rolling him back into the ring to score the pin and win the title.
