WrestleMania 33 results: Seth Rollins gets long-awaited revenge on Triple H
Seth Freakin’ Rollins pinned Triple H after a long, extended battle.
This match was building to a fever pitch for several months, but a wrench was thrown into the plans when Rollins re-injured his surgically repaired knee during a fight with Samoa Joe. Triple H agreed to have the match anyway, as long as Rollins signed a “hold harmless” agreement, essentially making this a non-sanctioned match where anything goes.
Rollins wasted no time taking the fight to HHH, and the match quickly spilled outside the barricade. They made their way back into the ring, and Rollins hit a pair of dives on Hunter before clearing off an announcer table. Triple H hit a DDT onto the table and started waffling Rollins’s bad knee with a chair. He got back in the ring and kept working over Rollins’s leg for a long stretch.
Rollins tried a sunset flip powerbomb on Triple H, but his leg buckled once again, giving Hunter more time to work him over. Rollins found the strength to deliver a buckle bomb to Triple H, the same move that ended Sting’s in-ring career. But Triple H took the move just fine, and the match continued.
After sending HHH to the outside, Rollins nailed a high crossbody off the top rope. After some more brawling on the floor, Rollins hit a frog splash for a two-count. Triple H set up a chair on Rollins’s bad leg and did moves onto it, with his wife, Stephanie McMahon, cheering him on.
Despite that, Rollins recovered and hit a superplex off the top rope, rolling into another suplex for a two-count. But Triple H kept targeting the injured knee, once again nailing Rollins with a chair, before locking in a Figure Four on the floor. While weapons were strewn about, Triple H got his signature sledgehammer, and stalked Rollins around the ring with it. Rollins fought back and both men were left laying on the mat, their energy expended.
Triple H went for the sledgehammer again, but Rollins dropped him with a high kick and picked up the hammer. Stephanie fought Rollins to get the weapon and Triple H used the distraction to hit his Pedigree, which Rollins somehow kicked out of.
Hunter went up top and set up a Pedigree off the top rope, but Rollins back-dropped him and hit the Phoenix Splash for a close two-count. Both men traded several Pedigree teases, before Rollins superkicked HHH into Stephanie, knocking her off the ropes and through a table. Seth Freakin’ Rollins finally hit the Pedigree and got the three count.
