Sunday night brings WWE fans one of the most-anticipated pay-per-views of the year: Money in the Bank. This year, the show is exclusive to the Smackdown brand, and the blue side of the WWE is using the opportunity to make some history with one of the show’s trademark ladder matches.

This is one of the best shows of the WWE calendar every single year, and this year looks like no exception.
WWE Money In The Bank is always a fun show, and this year’s edition in the Scottrade Center in St. Louis should be no exception. It starts at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local), and will be shown exclusively on the WWE Network, which currently has a free month available to new subscribers.
The Money In The Bank ladder match traditionally pits numerous male WWE Superstars against each other to see who can lay claim to a briefcase hung high above the ring. Inside the briefcase is a contract that guarantees the winner of the match and holder of the briefcase a match for the WWE Championship at any time of their choosing, a powerful tool that has almost always wound up seeing the match winner ultimately win the title. In fact, a year ago Dean Ambrose won the Money In The Bank ladder match and cashed in the briefcase that very night, taking the title from Seth Rollins mere moments after Rollins had beaten Roman Reigns to win it.
This year, the traditional ladder match will pit AJ Styles, United States champion Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, and Baron Corbin. That’s a wildly talented, hard-hitting group of wrestlers, including three former major WWE title holders who are all eager to get their hands on the WWE Championship.
None of that has to do with the history being made, though, because that history involves the womens’ division. The women of Smackdown will be having their own Money In The Bank ladder match, the first ever such match that has ever been held for the women of WWE. It’s a huge moment for Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina, and you can guarantee that all five of those massively talented ladies are going to put on a show as they fight for superiority.
Both of Smackdown’s top titles will be on the line as well, with Jinder Mahal defending the WWE Championship once more against Randy Orton, and Naomi putting the Smackdown Women’s Championship up for grabs against Lana. Both matches should be hard-hitting and entertaining, as should the Usos defending the Smackdown Tag Team Championships against the returning New Day, who are eager to start another title reign to potentially break their own record for the longest title reign in tag team history.
