The first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match didn’t disappoint (well, okay, until the finish). Tamina, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, and Carmella put on a match for the ages. But Carmella came out victorious, thanks to James Ellsworth climbing the ladder to retrieve the briefcase for her.
2017 WWE Money in the Bank results: Carmella won 1st-ever women’s Money in the Bank thanks to James Ellsworth
Many didn’t expect Carmella to win the matchup, but Ellsworth decided to help her win the bout by obtaining the briefcase for her.
Tamina looked spectacular straight out of the gates, asserting her dominance by attacking her opponents early. Moments later, Natalya was the first to climb the ladder to retrieve the brief case, but Charlotte performed the Electric Chair drop to end Natalya’s quest to win the matchup.
After Charlotte and Carmella climbed to the top of the ladder, Tamina knocked the ladder down, causing both Charlotte and Carmella to land on the ropes and onto the canvas.
Later on, Lynch tried to climb the ladder, but Ellsworth came into the ring and knocked Lynch off. Then, he climb to the top of the ladder, retrieved the briefcase, and thew it down to Carmella.
This was a bizarre ending because Ellsworth isn’t in the matchup, but the referees had no choice but to give Carmella the win because there were no disqualifications in the ladder match.
Now, Carmella will look to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase whenever she sees fit.
